A pilot doesn’t simply take off. Before the aircraft leaves the runway, there have been checklists completed, passengers boarded, systems tested, and clearances granted. The takeoff is only possible because of everything that happened before it.
Language works the same way.
And that’s exactly where the Past Perfect Tense comes in — the grammar of what happened before the runway moment.
